Honeymoon Recap in the DR

Happy Monday!!! I’m officially back…and with a new last name! The past two weeks have been crazy and this past week I’ve been catching up on sleep, work, and life. Marrying Brandon was the best day of my life, and thank you so much to everyone who congratulated us on social media! We got home late that Sunday of our wedding weekend and immediately had to pack and wake up 4 hours later to catch our flight to Punta Cana! We had the time of our lives and I honestly didn’t want to come home. Staying at an all-inclusive resort is probably one of the best decisions you could possibly make while on vacation—especially for your honeymoon! We stayed at the Excellence Resort (Excellence Punta Cana) and I HIGHLY recommend this resort! As mentioned a little bit ago, it was an all-inclusive resort so you didn’t have to worry about a thing; you could eat and drink to your hearts desire. On top of that, they treated you so well at this particular resort with a great group of staff all around! If you are planning on making a trip out to the DR check this place out.

Every night they had a show at their theater that was pretty amazing to watch. One evening they had a Michael Jackson show and those dancers were absolutely amazing! Another night they had a circus show and my goodness…the acrobats were ridiculously good!! During the days, B and I hung out on the beach and then made our way to the pool later in the afternoon. We didn’t do any excursions, but only because we felt that we honestly didn’t need to since we were pretty much enjoying each other and the relaxing scene of the beach. The resort had about 9 different restaurants so you really didn’t have an issue in regards to a variety of food. The first night they had a Dominican themed dinner party on the beach and it was so beautiful. They had a band playing while you overlooked the ocean and the sunset, and indulged in the delicious Dominican food.

A normal day for us would be waking up around 9 a.m. and getting breakfast room serviced to our room (also free). We would then head on over to the gym and sweat till we felt good (this way we could eat and drink whatever we wanted…ya feel me?). After that, we threw on our bathing suits, grabbed a drink at the bar (mojitos and coconut drinks were my fave), and then walked over to our bed on the beach that nobody ever wanted 4 out of the 5 days we were there (woot woot!). We would then grab lunch on the beach and made our way back out to our bed to tan some more. Usually around 4:30 p.m. we would make our way over to the pool and lay out some more/dip in the pool to cool off. We headed back to the room around 6 p.m. to take a shower and get ready for dinner. We usually ate around 7:30-8 p.m., which was perfect because the show didn’t start until 9:30 p.m. After dinner, we would of course head over to the theater and watch the show. Then this is where we may or may not have gotten lame…we went to bed around 10:30-11 p.m. mostly every night. BUT that’s totally okay with me because the trip was so relaxing and fun and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!

By the time Friday came around B and I were not ready to head home, but we of course had to. Our flight left around 8 a.m. that Saturday and we landed in Miami around 1 p.m. I’m sure since many of you follow me on Instagram, you saw that our flight was canceled back to Washington D.C. so we had to stay in Miami for the night until we could catch the next one out that Sunday night. Therefore, our honeymoon technically wasn’t over! We had a wonderful night in Miami. My good friend goes to Miami all the time so she was my #1 go-to person on where to stay and what to do. After consulting her, we stayed at Hotel Victor and looooved it. We were able to get the bungalow suite, which allowed us to have a swim up pool view, which we totally took advantage of the next day! We went out to dinner around our hotel that evening, and Sunday we walked all around Miami Beach and South Beach. As fun as the entire trip was, by the time Sunday evening came around I couldn’t wait to make my way back home and see my sweet Portia (thanks to my sister and her boyfriend for watching her)! When we picked Portia up, I think she was sadder to leave them than she was happy to see us, but oh well!
