Homemade Tortilla Chips and Guacamole
I went to visit Brandon (the BF) this weekend, whom I’ll add I haven’t seen in a month (yes, month long gaps are the worst), and I wanted to surprise him with his favorite thing that I usually make for him. You guessed it, tortilla chips and guacamole! His friends love it when I come down to visit and they expect me to make them guacamole everytime. I think they think I put some secret ingredient in there, but between you and me…there is nothing secret to my guacamole recipe. Since my guac is such a hit, I thought I’d share it with you guys and an added bonus on how to make your own tortilla chips!
Homemade Tortilla Chips
What you need:
• 1 cup Masa Harina
• 1/2 teaspoon of salt
• 3/4 cup of hot water
• Vegetable Oil
How to make your own tortilla chips:
Step 1: Mix 1 cup of Mesa Harina and 1/2 teaspoon of salt into a bowl.
Step 2: Pour 3/4 cup of hot water into bowl and mix until it looks like dough.
Step 3: Once mixed well, knead and form into a ball. Let sit for 1 hour.
Step 4: After allowing the dough to sit, divide the dough into 8 equal balls.
Step 5: Using a rolling pin, flatten each ball. (I did not have a rolling pin, so I used a frying pan and pushed down onto the dough to flatten it.)
Step 6: Fry tortilla on frying pan with vegetable oil. Be sure to flip onto the other side after about 1-2 minutes. If not thoroughly cooked, keep flipping.
Step 7: Before you place tortillas into the oven, they need to dry out. You can either let them sit overnight, or place them into the microwave for about 30 seconds.
Step 8: Preheat oven to 400 degrees. While preheating, cut each tortilla into fourths and place onto a cookie sheet.
Step 9: Brush olive oil onto tortilla chips and sprinkle with a dash of salt.
Step 10: Bake tortilla chips for 10-12 minutes.
Step 11: Take out of oven and let cool off until you can get your hands on them!
