DIY Shadow Box Wall Art
What better way to show off your favorite phrase or quote?! …and because you can never have too many pieces of art on your wall! This project was fun and I love that the colors in the background really made the piece pop! When the light hits the box, your words also create a pretty cool shadow in the background (bonus!).
What you need:
• Shadow boxes
• Clear adhesive contact paper
• Colored card stock paper
• White spray paint
• Print out of favorite quote or phrase (Make sure the words are mirrored. Also, be sure to measure the glass in order to cut to fit)
• Blue tape
• X-Acto knife
• Scissors
• Ruler
How to:
Step 1: Using your ruler, measure the size of the glass on the shadow box. With this measurement, apply to the contact paper and cut to fit inside of the shadow box. Peel off adhesive and stick onto the inside of the glass.
Step 2: Using the measurement of the glass, cut out your phrase or quote and place onto the front of the glass. Use tape to secure the paper from moving.
Step 3: With the X-Acto knife, individually cut out each letter on the contact paper.
Step 4: Blue tape around the inside edges of the box to protect the glass from overspray.
Step 5: You can now spray paint the letters onto the shadow box. Be sure to spray lightly so that paint does not become runny. After trial and error, I found it easier to remove the blue tape and contact paper immediately after spraying due to the paint seeping under and onto the glass.
Step 6: After all tape and contact paper has been removed, measure the back of the box for sizing. Using these measurements cut out your colored card stock paper. Place each paper into the back of each shadow box and close the backing of the frame.
Step 7: Your shadow box wall art is ready to be hung on your wall! I placed mine right by my bed! I thought it was the perfect place for them! :]
