D.I.Y. Engagement Photoshoot/D.I.Y. Wedding Update
I’m so excited to share this post with you guys! It’s pretty important to me because B and I have been trying to figure out whether or not we wanted to do our engagement photos. We were on the fence about it since we are on such a tight budget, so I thought, why not do our own!? I was finally able to do it this weekend with B and I love how they turned out! (Sidenote: Since we were on the fence about getting our engagement photos professionally done, we finally decided this week to go ahead and do them with our wonderful photographer. These will be done when it warms up outside and I’ll be sure to share with you all then!)
D.I.Y. Engagement Photoshoot
I found a twin sized flat sheet from the store for under $15. I already had some fabric paint and spray paint laying around from previous projects so this one worked out perfectly for me! This backdrop turned out to be pretty awesome! Also, I found the balloons on Stephanie Shives Studio’s Esty shop! They are actually pretty cool because you can inflate them yourself with a straw AND they are reusable!!
What you need:
• Letters Y, E, S—16” balloons from StephShivesStudio
• Plain white flat sheet—I used a twin size
• Scotch tape
• Spray paint
• Fabric paint
• Mini chalkboard
• Chalk
How to:
Step 1: Lay the flat sheet down and spray paint. I thought adding in the gold metallic hearts was the perfect addition to the abstract piece. Once a layer of spray paint is complete, throw fabric paint onto the sheet. Let dry for about 24 hours.
Step 2: Once the backdrop is dry, your photoshoot is ready to be set up. Pin backdrop onto the wall and inflate your balloons. Using scotch tape, tape the balloons onto the sheet (do the double side tape trick).
Step 3: Using chalk, write “she said” onto your chalkboard.
Step 4: Your engagement photoshoot is ready!!
D.I.Y. Wedding Update
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that I announced that we have finally picked our wedding hashtag! It will be #asandyaffair (eeeeek! I can’t wait)
I’ve been waiting to talk to you guys about the progress on our DIY wedding, but I wasn’t ready just yet! I’m still not 100% ready, but I do have some stuff to share! So here’s the lo-down:
Our Venue:
Since we are doing a DIY wedding with such a tight budget we really couldn’t afford having it at a nice venue where they pretty much do everything for you :[ It would’ve been nice, but waaaay over our budget of $5,000. Instead, we are having our ceremony on a public beach, with our reception being held in a park area about 3 blocks from the beach. Total we are spending $350.00 to have a permit for the beach and the park area. So if you’re on a budget, public beaches and parks are the way to go!
Our photographer:
We are so lucky to have found a photographer who understands our budget and is willing to work with us; we couldn’t jeopardize not having a great photographer there on our special day! Of course, I want to remember and see everything that I missed that day. Sidney is such a sweet and talented person, and I recommend you all check her out! You can find her Facebook page here: Sidney Leigh Photography
Save the Dates:
I have finally finished designing the save the dates and they are officially being printed right now. So, once those arrive I’ll update you all on the colors and theme! Thankfully I have awesome friends who are printing my save the date postcards for free! (ahhh!! The best friends ever!!)
Whew! Well guys, so far that is all we have that’s solid right now!! I can’t wait to see the save the date postcards in person and share the design with you all! See you guys back here next Monday!! xoxo
this is adorable!!! I love these pics. When is your wedding date? I’m taking notes on everything
Thanks so much Hayley! We were pretty happy with how they turned out! Our wedding will be in August! We’re trying to keep the exact date a secret until later when I can tell all!! :]
You guys look too cute! That’s awesome about the public beach space. What a great idea! 🙂 can’t wait to see your save-the-dates!
Caitlin! Thank youuu!! I cannot wait to share!
I’m so happy for you; I can see a couple with many dreams and projects together. Go ahead; all your dreams will come true. I love you “my little Marianela”
Thank you Aunt Silvia!! Love you!!
Beautiful couple, cute idea!
Thank you!!<3
AH!! This is so so so cute! And even cuter couple. Love this idea, epsecially with most people trying to watch their budget on these things. Congrats on your engagement!
Hi Amy! Thanks soo much!! Ugh, yes, it’s crazy how you can watch the numbers increase little by little. Thank you again! We’re pretty excited <3
[…] I know you all love the updates! I believe I gave you all an update on our wedding back in February (you can read about it here), and a loooot has changed since then! I’ve honestly been trying to figure out how to write this […]
[…] this opportunity to do B and I’s first Christmas card photos as newlyweds! If you remember the DIY engagement photoshoot I did earlier this year, this one is just as fun, if not […]
Did you use a tripod or just prop the camera up? I want to do something similar for save the date photo!
Hi Nora! So I had my sister take these photos, but only because I didn’t have a tripod yet. My husband and I recently did a DIY photoshoot for Christmas and we used a tripod. It was so fun! You can put the camera on self-timer and quickly get yourself into position! Propping the camera up also would work just as well!
